Mikayla is Here!

Introducing Mikayla Marie Head: Born 5.7.2011 at 7:54 p.m.

She weighed 7lb. 2oz. and was 21 in. long

The day after my last post, May 6, I had an appointment to do a non stress test on the baby. The doctor hooked me up to a heart monitor and watched it for about 45 min. Mikayla was supposed to move around a lot and her heart rate go up with the movements, content as she was in there she didn’t move as much as the doctor wanted and her little heart rate was steady. Given that information and my non-progression towards labor it was decided not to wait even a few more days as planned and I was admitted into the hospital that night!

At about 8 p.m., I was given cervidel, a medicine to help my labor move along. It would take all night so it was my first time ever having to stay at the hospital. In the morning a little progress had been made but not enough so I was started on pitocin. After 11 hours my contractions were where they should be (really hard) but I was not dilated or effaced enough to continue, I was barely at a 4. I was taken in for a C-section and at 7:54p.m., May 7, 2011, Mikayla Marie arrived! It was pretty amazing to hear those first little cries and know that she was finally here. I couldn’t hold her right away but did get a good look at her. The first thing I noticed was how much she looked like her daddy!

Away Rod and Mikayla went while I got stitched and stapled back together. Rod was able to bring her into the recovery room where I was able to hold her for just a bit. I was in recovery for just over an hour and then back to my room. I was in the hospital until Wed. the 11th. My mom and sister and Rod’s parents were able to be at the hospital. Larry and Marie had to leave Sunday morning but lucky to see this little girl before they headed home. My mom and Karen were able to stay the rest of the week and went home yesterday.

We are looking forward to having Granny and Papa (who hasn’t seen her yet!) and Grandma and Grandpa back for Memorial weekend!

Shawn was excited that it was so close to Mother's Day. The first thing he noticed about Mikayla was how soft her hair was! He is happy to be finally be a big brother, although he would like it better if his little sister didn't sleep so much. I reassured him soon enough she'll be wide awake and wanting to play with his legos.

Shawn is also happy to know that he is not the only subject I want to shoot now! Finally a break from his obsessive shutterbug mother! I didn't tell him that he doesn't really get a break he just has a sister to be in the pictures with him.
